The Sun Java System Identity Synchronization for Windows product is a software solution designed to enable synchronization of identity attributes -- including passwords -- between Windows NT, Windows 2000 Active Directory, and Sun Java System Directory Server environments. Identity attributes for enterprise employees typically include values such as name, work address, phone number, e-mail address, employee ID, and department number. With the Sun Java System Identity Synchronization for Windows solution, users continue to use the native login mechanisms and policies of each application/directory environment.
Whenever users change password values -- or other attributes such as phone number -- in one directory environment, the new values are immediately and automatically propagated to the other authentication back-end. There is no requirement to change the applications being accessed or to modify the Microsoft Windows directories. In addition, when using Sun Java System Identity Synchronization for Windows software between the Sun Java System Directory Server and Windows 2000 Active Directory, there is no requirement to install any components in the Microsoft Windows environment.
