In many industries, such as hospitals and manufacturing shop floors, kiosks are widely deployed because they provide users with quick and convenient access to applications throughout an organization. But too often users walk away from the kiosk without logging off, potentially exposing sensitive data to the wrong set of eyes and posing a serious security risk.
v-GO® Session Manager addresses this security threat head on by automatically terminating inactive sessions and shutting down applications after a specified period of time.
How Passlogix v-Go Session Manager Works
A v-GO Session Manager-enabled kiosk knows who is using the kiosk at any given time by prompting each user to log in to an LDAP directory, such as Active Directory. This logon is much faster than a traditional Windows domain logon. v-GO Single Sign-On recognizes the user's LDAP identity and uses it to retrieve that user's credentials, application definitions and settings.
All subsequent single sign-on activity (e.g., logons, password changes) takes place automatically based upon user action. The user can quickly log out of the kiosk when the work is finished. If the user doesn't log out, v-GO Session Manager detects that the session is inactive and automatically suspends the session. If the user doesn't return or a new user wants to use the kiosk, v-GO Session Manager automatically shuts down the original session and gracefully shuts down any open applications
Benefits of Passlogix v-Go Session Manager
Provide Quick, Convenient Application Access for Kiosk Users
v-GO Session Manager extends the advantages of single sign-on to kiosks, making it easy for multiple users to quickly and securely access applications. With v-GO Session Manager, users, such as clinicians or shop floor workers can conveniently and quickly access the applications they need to do their jobs effectively.
Strengthen Security
Kiosk users who walk away from a kiosk without logging off expose potentially sensitive data to the next kiosk user. In the health care field, for example, this means potentially exposing confidential medical records.
v-GO Session Manager reduces the security threat by automatically logging users off and suspending and terminating inactive sessions after a predetermined period of inactivity. Sessions started with a smart card end automatically with card removal.
Improve Compliance Demonstration
v-GO Session Manager facilitates compliance with federal security and privacy regulations, such as HIPAA, a law protecting the privacy of patient records. Properly authenticating each user before any records are accessed, enforcing password policies, and locking down each session after a defined period of inactivity helps healthcare providers comply with HIPAA and keep data secure.
Improve Control and Central Administration
v-GO Session Manager gives administrators extensive new controls over shared terminal sessions. Administrators decide how long a session should remain inactive before it becomes suspended or terminated. Administrators control all kiosks via a centralized console. An intuitive graphical user interface gives administrators control over all session and application shutdown parameters.
