The Benefits of Using HID to Secure your Company
Access Management , Compliance , Advanced Authentication , CJIS , HID Global , Identity Management , Security Add commentsLet’s face it, in this day and age, with everything being stored digitally, security is a major issue for companies. A lot of companies have been looking for a way to boost security for their employees, and HID is a great way to do so. HID is versatile, robust, and with HID your company will comply with all facets of the CJIS Mandate.
The main benefit of implementing HID authentication is its versatility. If your company already uses ID cards or badges for your building/suite, you can adhere one of their stickers onto your pre-existing technology, and you can then use that same card to authenticate into your computers at work. If you don’t have ID Cards, HID also offers cards that come in both contact-less and touch-and-go forms. Contact-less requires a user to wave the card over the reader, and you’re authenticated into your computer. Touch-and-go is when you physically lay your card on the reader to authenticate access, and simply remove the card to log off your computer. The latter is thought to be the safer of the two, but it’s really up to the preference and comfort of the company. If you don’t want to use cards at all, HID also offers USB devices that you just plug-n-play for any computer you have access to, and then gain access by using a key fob.
HID’s security is very robust yet simple to use for the end-user. HID’s NaviGo system can link into your existing Active Directory or use its SOAP interface to create a connector that will integrate into your IDM Service. What would normally take a few hours setting up a user’s security level now only takes minutes. You can use your HID authentication to gain access to buildings, your computers at work, and with NaviGo, manage multiple facilities from the same instance.
For those organizations with access to the CJIS database, the FBI has set forth a mandate in which all users must be complaint. This mandate, commonly known as the CJIS Mandate or CJIS Security Policy is described below:
“The Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) provides state, local, and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies with access to critical, personal information such as fingerprint records, criminal histories, and sex offender registrations. In order to prevent unauthorized access to this extremely sensitive information, a security policy governing the access to the CJIS database was enacted on January 1, 2011. The mandate sets forth the minimum requirements for securing access to the data included within CJIS. The policy requires "Advanced Authentication", or multi-factor authentication, to be implemented across all those that agencies that access the information contained in the CJIS database. Public safety, judicial, and correctional institutions must comply or face administrative sanctions and/or criminal penalties.” - http://www.actionidentity.com/cjis-compliance
With HID, you get efficient two factor authentication at a fraction of the cost, and peace of mind knowing that your newly implemented system is CJIS compliant. For more information and a video tutorial on the CJIS Mandate and NaviGo, please visit our YouTube page.
In conclusion, HID offers cost effective and reliable solutions to boost your company’s security. With so many ways to utilize its technology, and the robustness of what you can integrate into it, it’s a surefire way to secure your company and get the peace of mind that comes with more security, without having to break the bank.
